[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀢𑀯𑀬 (tavaya), from a variant of Sanskrit तापक (tāpaka), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tāpakas, from Proto-Indo-European *tep-. Cognates include Baluchi تہافغ (thafaġ, “oven”), Bengali তই (toi), Hindustani توا / तवा (tavā), Kashmiri तव (taw), Odia ତଇ (tai), Punjabi توا / ਤਵਾ, Persian تاوه (tâve), Sindhi تَئيِ (taī).
