[edit]Inherited from Prakrit *𑀞𑀝𑁆𑀞 (*ṭhaṭṭha); further etymology uncertain. Perhaps from a substrate.[1] Cognate with Bengali ঠাট্টা (ṭhaṭṭa), Hindi ठट्ठा (ṭhaṭṭhā), Marathi ठठ्ठा (ṭhaṭhṭhā), Nepali ठट्टा (ṭhaṭṭā), Punjabi ਠੱਠਾ (ṭhaṭṭhā).
