Usage notes
[edit]Contrasted with many different words that roughly translate to 'oneself' or 'by oneself'. Particularly contrasted with પોતે (pote, “oneself”). હું પોતે ગયો indicates that the speaker is emphasizing, or introducing new information, that he himself went, but allows for the possibility that others went with him. Whereas the sentence હું જાતે ગયો indicates that the speaker went by himself, with no others joining him.
