Inherited from Prakrit 𑀙𑁂𑀅 (chea) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀮𑁆𑀮- (-lla-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit છેદ (cheda). Cognate with Marwari छहलौ (chahlau) / 𑅚𑅱𑅮𑅒 (chhlu) छेलो (chelo) / 𑅚𑅓𑅮𑅔 (chelo), छेलौ (chelau) / 𑅚𑅓𑅮𑅒 (chelu).
