[edit]Inherited from Sanskrit स्वप्न (svapna), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *swápnas, from Proto-Indo-European *swépnos, from *swep-. Cognates include Latin somnus, Ancient Greek ὕπνος (húpnos) and Old English swefn (English sweven). Doublet of ਖ਼ਾਬ (xāb).
