Inherited from Prakrit 𑀚𑀲 (jasa), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀬𑀲𑁄 (yaso), from Sanskrit यशः (yáśaḥ). Cognate with Old Hindi जस (jasa), Old Gujarati जस (jasa).
