[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀅𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀸 (appā), from Sanskrit आत्मन् (ātmán, “soul, spirit; self”). Compare Marathi आपण (āpaṇ). Doublet of ਆਪ (āpa).

Usage notes
[edit]Used in some Punjabi dialects, mainly in India, but also in some dialects of Pakistan - which indicates an inclusive plural personal pronoun, ie. 'we'. In standard Punjabi, the common term is ਅਸੀਂ (asī̃) / اَسِیں (asīṉ), which does not indicate inclusivity or exclusivity.
