Inherited from Middle Bengali সাঞি (sãi), from Prakrit 𑀲𑀸𑀁𑀇 (sāṃi), from Sanskrit स्वामी (svāmī). Doublet of স্বামী (śami) and সোয়ামি (śōẇami).
