Learned borrowing from Sanskrit শ্রী (śrī), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *śriHrás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćriHrás (beautiful, splendid). Doublet of শ্রেয় (śreẏo, better, superior), শ্রেষ্ঠ (sreśṭho, best, excellent), and অশ্লীল (oslil, ugly, nasty, indecent).
