Inherited from Middle Bengali মোকাম (mōkam), from Classical Persian مقام (muqām), from Arabic مُقَام (muqām). Compare Old Hindi मुकांम (mukā̃ma), Old Punjabi ਮੁਕਾਮੁ (mukāmu).
