[edit]From Early Assamese *বাইঙ্গনা (baiṅgona), from Magadhi Prakrit *𑀯𑀸𑀇𑀁𑀕𑀡 (*vāiṃgaṇa), from Ashokan Prakrit [Term?], from Sanskrit ৱাতিঙ্গণ (vātiṅgaṇa), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *wātinganas. Cognate with ancestral Bengali বাগন (bagon) (modern Bengali বেগুন (begun)).
