[edit]Inherited from Middle Bengali বেঅকুভ (beokubh) with deaspiration and syncope, from Classical Persian بیوقوف (bēwuqūf) with voicing, from بیـ (bē-, “without”) and Arabic وُقُوف (wuqūf, “standing still; study, knowledge”). Cognate with Gujarati બેવકૂફ (bevakūph), Hindustani بیوقوف (byoqof) / बेवक़ूफ़ (bevaqūf).
