[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian بادام (bādām, “almond”), from Middle Persian 𐭥𐭠𐭣𐭠𐭬 (wʾtʾm /wādām/), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *vātādám. Cognate with Bengali বাদাম (badam), Gujarati બદામ (badām), Hindi बादाम (bādām), Nepali बदाम् (badām) and Odia ବାଦାମ (bādāma).
