Usage notes
[edit]পোড়া (pōṛa) and পোড়ানো (pōṛanō) are both commonly translated as to burn, but the two terms are not interchangeable.
- পোড়া (pōṛa) treats the thing being burned as the subject:
- মাছটা পুড়ছে।
- machṭa puṛoche.
- The fish is burning.
- পোড়ানো (pōṛanō) treats it as the object:
- মাছটা পোড়াচ্ছে।
- machṭa pōṛacche.
- They are burning the fish.
