Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀢𑁆𑀭𑁂𑀟𑁆𑀟 (*treḍḍa), *𑀢𑁆𑀭𑁂𑀟𑁆𑀠 (*treḍḍha, slanted, crosswise), of substrate origin. Cognate with Assamese টেৰা (tera), Odia ଟେଡ଼ା (ṭeṛā), ତେଢ଼ା (teṛhā), Maithili तेढ़ (tēṛh), Bhojpuri टेढ़ (ṭēṛh), Hindustani टेढ़ा / ٹیڑھا (ṭeṛhā), Gujarati તેડું (teḍũ), Nepali टेड़ो (ṭeṛo), Punjabi ਟੇਢਾ (ṭeḍhā), Marathi तेडा (teḍā), तेढा (teḍhā). Doublet of তেওড়া (teōṛa).
