ডানা
Appearance
Bengali
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Sanskrit डयन (ḍayana, “bird's flight”), from the root डी (ḍī, “to fly”) + -अन (-ana, nominal suffix), back-formed from उड्डी (uḍḍī) under the influence of the unretroflexed variant दी (dī), probably formed as a root for the verb उड्डीयते (uḍḍīyate), whence also উড়া (uṛa).
