[edit]Inherited from Early Assamese ঠাৱ (ṭhawo), from Magadhi Prakrit [Term?], from Sanskrit স্থায (sthāya, “station”). Cognate with Chittagonian ঠাঁই (thañi), Bengali ঠাঁই (ṭhãi), Maithili 𑒚𑒰𑒍𑒿 (ṭāō̃), Bhojpuri 𑂘𑂰𑂀𑂫 / ठाँव (ṭhā̃v), English stay.
