[edit]Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀞𑀸𑀡 (ṭhāṇa), from Sanskrit स्थान (sthā́na), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *stáHnam, from Proto-Indo-European *stéh₂-no-m, from *steh₂- (“to stand”). Cognate with Chittagonian ঠাঁই (ṭai), Assamese ঠাই (thai), Maithili ঠাম (ṭhām), Bhojpuri 𑂘𑂰𑂀𑂫 / ठाँव (ṭhā̃v), Romani than, Persian ستان (stân), Kamkata-viri tõ, English stand. Doublet of স্থান (sthan).
