Borrowed from Classical Persian چهره (čihra), from Middle Persian 𐭰𐭧𐭫𐭪𐭩 (čihrag), from Old Persian *čiθrakaʰ, from Proto-Iranian *čiθrákah, from *čiθráh, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čitrás. Doublet of চিত্র (citro, picture, image). Cognate with Assamese চেহেৰা (sehera), Odia ଚେହେରା (ceherā), Hindi चेहरा (cehrā), Gujarati ચહેરો (cahero), Marathi चेहरा (cehrā), Punjabi ਚਿਹਰਾ (cihrā). Doublet of চিত্র (citro), চিতা (cita), চিতি (citi), and চিতল (citol).
