Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Indo-Aryan *khadda (“coarse cloth”). Possibly an areal word, related to Proto-Dravidian *kaṇṭai.[1] Biswas (2004) traces it to Gujarati ખદ્દર (khaddar).[2]
