Borrowed from Portuguese câmara, from Latin camara, camera, from Ancient Greek καμάρα (kamára), from Old Iranian. Doublet of কোমর (kōmor) and ক্যামেরা (kêmera). Cognate with Hindi कमरा (kamrā), Gujarati કમરો (kamro).
