Inherited from Early Assamese ককা (koka), from Sanskrit *কাক্ক (kākka, senior male relative). Cognate with Hindi काका (kākā). Related to ককাই (kokai, elder brother).

    • 14th century, Madhav Kandali, Saptakanda Ramayana Lanka Kanda:
      ককা ভায়া সাৰা হেৰা আসি পাইলে মোক । ব্যূহ ভঙ্গে পলাই মুণ্ড বাজে ঠাক ঠুক ॥
      koka bhaya sara hera asi paile möko , bjūho bhoṅge polai muṇḍo baje ṭhako ṭhuko .
      Elder brother, younger brother, everyone see, it reached me.
      Flees breaking byuh and the heads sound thak thuk (due to crashing at each other).
