[edit]Inherited from Sanskrit অঙ্কযতি (aṅkayati, “to move along a curve; mark”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hankáyati, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂enk-éye-ti (“to cause to curve”). Cognate with Assamese আঁক (ãk), Sylheti ꠀꠇꠣ (axa), Hindustani آن٘کْنَا (ā̃knā) / आँकना (ā̃knā), Marathi आखणे (ākhṇe), Gujarati આંકવું (ā̃kavũ).
