Inherited from Prakrit *हिमआलिअ (himaālia), from Sanskrit हिम (hima, cold; frost; snow; winter) +‎ काल (kālá, time; season) +‎ -इक (-ika, relational suffix).[1] By surface analysis, हिवाळा (hivāḷā) +‎ -ई (, relational suffix).
