Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘮𑘰𑘭𑘜𑘹 (hāsaṇe), 𑘮𑘰𑘽𑘭𑘜𑘹 (hāṃsaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀳𑀲𑀇 (hasaï), from Sanskrit हसति (hásati). Cognate with Gujarati હસવું (hasvũ), Hindi हँसना (hãsnā), Marathi हसणौ (hasṇau), Nepali हाँस्नु (hā̃snu), Punjabi ਹੱਸਣਾ (hassaṇā) / ہسّنا (hssnā).
