Inherited from Prakrit 𑀳𑀟𑁆𑀟 (haḍḍa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-) without compensatory lengthening, from Sanskrit हड्ड (haḍḍa). Displaced Hindi हाड़ (hāṛ). Cognate with Punjabi ਹੱਡਾ (haḍḍā).
