Borrowed from Classical Persian حکیم (hakīm), from Arabic حَكِيم (ḥakīm). Compare Assamese হাকিম (hakim), Bengali হাকিম (hakim), Gujarati હકીમ (hakīm), Malayalam ഹക്കിം (hakkiṁ), Punjabi ਹਕੀਮ (hakīm).
