Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *swéh₂d-isth₂o-s (“sweetest”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἥδῐστος (hḗdĭstos, “most pleasant”) and Old High German swozisto. By surface analysis, स्वादु (svādu) + -इष्ठ (-iṣṭha).
