[edit]Borrowed from Classical Persian صُرَاحِی (surāhī), from صُرَاح (surāh, “clean, pure”), from Arabic صُرَاح (ṣurāḥ, “clean, pure”), from صَرَحَ (ṣaraḥa, “to be pure”), from the root ص ر ح (ṣ r ḥ). Cognate with Ottoman Turkish صراحی (ṣurāhi, “a decanter, carafe”) (whence Turkish sürahi) and Azerbaijani sürahi.
