[edit]Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘭𑘳𑘃𑘜𑘲 (suīṇī), 𑘭𑘳𑘧𑘜𑘲 (suyaṇī), from Sanskrit *सूतिजानि (sūtijāni), equivalent to सूति (sūtí) + जानि (jā́ni). Compare Gujarati સુયાણી (suyāṇī).
