Inherited from Prakrit 𑀲𑀁𑀩𑀁𑀥𑀺𑀡𑀻 (saṃbaṃdhiṇī), from Sanskrit सम्बन्धिनी (sambandhinī). By surface analysis, समधी (samdhī) +‎ -इन (-in).
