Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćráwas, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱléwos (“fame, glory”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬯𐬭𐬀𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬢𐬵 (srauuaŋh, “word”), Ancient Greek κλέος (kléos, “fame”), Russian сла́ва (sláva).

saptédíndraṃ ná sraváto gṛṇanti ní yudhyāmadhímaśiśādabhī́ke. - Him (Indra) whose fame is spread across the wide earth and heavens, who, as dispenser, gives each chief his portion, seven following rivers glorify like Indra.
