Etymology

    Inherited from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hsaws-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂sews- (dry). Cognate with Proto-Slavic *sȗxъ (dry), Lithuanian sausas (dry), Proto-Germanic *sauzaz (dry) whence English sear.
