Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćáp-ša-m ~ *ćáp-sa-m, after undergoing metathesis; from the root *ćap- (“greens; grass”). Cognate with Persian سبزه (sabze, “grass”), سبزی (sabzi, “vegetable”), Pashto سابه (sābah), Shughni [script needed] (sebc, “cultivated field”).
