Borrowed from Classical Persian شلغم (šalğam), from Middle Persian, possibly from Ancient Greek σικελικόν (sikelikón, literally the Sicilian one). Compare Bengali শালগম (śalogom), Assamese চালগোম (salogüm), Punjabi ਸ਼ਲਗਮ (śalgam).
