Etymology
[edit]From शक (śaka, “Scythians, Sacae, Saka”) + मुरुण्ड (muruṇḍa), from a Proto-Saka name *Sakā mravantaʰ (literally “Saka lords”).
Equivalent in meaning to but not cognates with Ancient Greek Σακαραῦκαι (Sakaraûkai) and Middle Chinese 塞旺 (MC sojH|sok hjwangH).
