Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘪𑘹𑘠𑘜𑘹 (vedhaṇe), from Prakrit 𑀯𑀺𑀤𑁆𑀥𑀇 (viddhaï) with i to e and change in transitivity, from 𑀯𑀺𑀤𑁆𑀥 (viddha), from Sanskrit विद्ध (viddhá). Compare Gujarati વેધવું (vedhvũ), Hindustani بیدْھنَا (bedhnā) / बेधना (bedhnā), Marwari वेधणौ (vedhṇau) / 𑅯𑅓𑅦𑅢𑅒 (vedhṇu), Sindhi ويڌَڻُ / वेधणु / 𑋛𑋥𑋐𑋌𑋣 (vedhaṇu), Nepali बेध्नु (bedhnu), Odia ବିଧା (bidhā), Dhivehi ވިދު (vidu).
