[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *wiHrúdʰ-, from *wi- (“away, apart, about; in different directions”) + Proto-Indo-European *h₁ludʰ-, zero grade of *h₁lewdʰ- (“to grow”), whence also रोधति (rodhati, “grows”).
