[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hwásyas (“better”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hwásyas (“better”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁wés-yōs, comparative degree of *h₁wes- (“good”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬬𐬀𐬵𐬌𐬌𐬀𐬵 (vahiiah), Persian به (beh).
