From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hwásyas (better), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hwásyas (better), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁wés-yōs, comparative degree of *h₁wes- (good). Cognate with Avestan 𐬬𐬀𐬵𐬌𐬌𐬀𐬵 (vahiiah), Persian به (beh).
