[edit]The origin is disputed. One theory, a legend, claims it to be from inherited from Sanskrit लव (lava, “Lava”) + पुर (pura, “fortress; city”), literally “city of Lava”.[1][2][3] Compare Punjabi لَہَوْر (lahaur) / ਲਹੌਰ (lahaur), Gujarati લાહોર (lāhor), Marathi लाहोर (lāhor), Bengali লাহোর (lahōr).
