Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀮𑀟𑁆𑀟𑀺𑀅 (laḍḍia), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀮𑀸𑀟𑁆𑀬- (*lāḍya-). Related to लाडके (lāḍke). Cognate with Hindi लाड़ (lāṛ).
