[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *rawkás, from Proto-Indo-European *lewk-ó-s, from *lewk- (“to shine, bright”). Cognate with Latin lūx, Russian луч (luč, “light”), Persian روز (ruz), Old English lēoht (whence English light).
