Inherited from Prakrit 𑀭𑀲𑁆𑀲𑀺 (rassi) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-) without compensatory lengthening, from Sanskrit रश्मि (raśmí), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *raćmíš. Doublet of रास (rās). Cognate with Punjabi ਰੱਸਾ (rassā).
