Etymology
[edit]From रक्ष् (rakṣ), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂lek- (“to defend”), same source as Ancient Greek ἀλέξω (aléxō, “I defend”). Other cognates include Old Armenian երաշխիք (erašxikʻ), and Old English ealgian (“to protect, defend”).
