Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *yuHs-ó-s (“soup, broth”). Cognate with Latin iūs (“gravy, broth, sauce”) (whence English juice), Lithuanian jū́šė (“fish soup”), Russian уха (uxa, “fish soup”), Proto-Germanic *justaz (“cheese”).
