Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hyáštā (“worshipper”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁yaǵ-tōr ~ *h₁iǵ-tr-és (“one who worships, worshipper”); from the root *h₁yaǵ- (“to worship”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬫𐬀𐬱𐬙𐬀𐬭 (yaštar, “worshipper”).
