Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘦𑘹𑘮𑘳𑘜𑘰 (mehuṇā), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀫𑁂𑀳𑀼𑀡𑀺𑀅 (mehuṇia), from Sanskrit मिथुनक (mithunaka).
