[edit]Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘦𑘰𑘐𑘲𑘩 (māgīla), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀫𑀕𑁆𑀕𑀺𑀮𑁆𑀮 (maggilla), from 𑀫𑀕𑁆𑀕 (magga) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀮𑁆𑀮- (-illa-), from Sanskrit मार्ग (mārga, “path”). By surface analysis, मागे (māge) + -ईल (-īl).
