[edit]Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘥𑘪𑘨𑘰 (bhavarā), 𑘥𑘽𑘪𑘨𑘰 (bhaṃvarā), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀪𑀫𑀭𑀻 (bhamarī), 𑀪𑀫𑀮𑀻 (bhamalī), 𑀪𑀫𑀮𑀺𑀬𑀸 (bhamaliyā), from Sanskrit भ्रमर (bhramara) (compare भ्रमरक (bhramaraka)). Compare Gujarati ભમરડો (bhamarḍo), Hindustani بَھنوَر (bhanvar) / भँवर (bhãvar), بَھونرِی (bhaunrī) / भौंरी (bha͠urī), Sindhi ڀَونريِ / भौंरी, Punjabi ਭੰਵਰ (bhãvar) / بھنور (bhnor), Nepali भुमरी (bhumarī), Odia ଭଉଁରା (bhaũrā), Sinhalese බමරය (bamaraya), බඹරය (baᵐbaraya), Dhivehi ބުމަރު (bumaru).
