[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *bʰúȷ́as, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰúǰas, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰewgʰ- (“to bend”). Cognate with Old English būgan (whence English bow). The Sanskrit root is भुज् (bhuj).
